Visit to Twisted Automotive & Bylands Abbey in North Yorkshire 4th Sept 2016
Some 25 members visited Twisted Automotive where the company take the iconic Land Rover Defender and re-engineer it from the ground up to be the very best vehicle it can be, whilst still retaining its integrity and character. They buy new Defenders from Jaguar Land Rover dealerships, or customers can bring their own vehicles for modification. This British classic is loved across the world and at the factory they lovingly handcraft every part to meet the exacting standard of their clients and produce a bespoke unique vehicle from the iconic Land Rover Defender. We then travelled the few miles to Bylands Abbey built in during the 12th century. It was designed to accommodate about 100 monks and 200 lay brothers. The church is the largest single building at Byland, exceeding many contemporary cathedrals in size. It was also probably the most architecturally elaborate church built by the Cistercian order at the time. We then retired to the Abbey Inn for a very enjoyable buffet lunch. The Inn is nestled at the foot of the Hambleton Hills, surrounded by the ruins of the Abbey and beautiful open countryside.
