Visit to the Aston Martin Workshop 5th October 2014
Several members and friends visited the Aston Workshop, near Beamish earlier in October. Roger Thornley, Tony Henderson, and John Thompson and his good lady wife Anne, travelled over from Penrith to join us. The showroom contained a plethora of cars of all ages, some for sale, some owned by the Aston Workshop themselves, and some being stored for customers. Of course they were mainly Aston Martins, but there was at least one Car of the Marque, an unusually bodied 20hp. It seems that there should be rear doors, but they are missing. We were shown round the workshops, including the body shop, where brand new bodies were being fabricated, the general workshop, where the cars were put together, and the engine workshop. There is obviously tremendous attention to detail, and a car after restoration would seem to be better than new. While we were there a Bentley Special came in, and that seemed to be a photo opportunity!
