R.A.F. Leeming Families Day 9th June 2012
The R.A.F. Leeming ‘Families Day’ is a event to give the families and friends of those who work on the station an enjoyable day out and to see first hand what goes on at the base. This high profile event is of particular importance to the families of serving personnel on deployed operations and to those who have recently returned home from operational duties. The event also has a charity side and the goal is to raise as much money as possible in for the 5 station charities that R.A.F. Leeming personnel voted to support this year. The North Eastern Section of the RREC and the Jaguar Drivers Club joined forces to provide a display of classic cars, along side various military vehicles and of course aircraft.
During the day there were various flying displays which included the Blades Aerobatic Team, Tutor and Hawk Aerobatic display, and finally The Red Arrows Display Team. Unfortunately as usual the weather played it’s part and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight of the Lancaster and Spitfire had to be cancelled. The day was most enjoyable with many thanks to the personnel of R.A.F. Leeming for organising such a good event.
