Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club
North Eastern Section Website
The Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club is an international organisation catering for owners and enthusiasts' (who need not necessarily be owners) of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars. The aims of the Club are to promote the use and preservation of such cars by providing members with various related benefits, chief among other which are technical assistance, historical archives and insurance benefits, plus many opportunities to meet other like-minded people at technical seminars and a multitude of rallies and social events. As well as being the administrative centre, the Club Headquarters located near Northampton houses a huge collection of historical artefacts and vehicle documentation, including the individual’s construction records of most of the cars built at the Crewe and Derby Workshops, to which members have access. For a modest fee, members can have photocopies of these records for their own cars. Members receive a monthly Advertiser containing advertisements for spares servicing etc, and cars for sale, plus a bi-monthly glossy magazine (The Bulletin) which is the main communications medium for club members. The Club is currently divided into 40 area Sections. Of these, 21 cover countries overseas, whilst mainland Britain is sub-divided into 19 Sections. Club members automatically become members of their local Section (at no extra cost) determined by the area in which they reside although they can, if they wish, elect to become members of an alternative Section if they feel such would be more appropriate to their particular requirements. There are also eight Model Registers (Silver Ghost, 20 HP, 20/25, 25/30 & Wraith, Derby Bentley, Derby Phantom, Mk VI & Silver Wraith, Silver Clouds & S Types and Silver Shadows, T Types and derivatives) for members of these models. It is anticipated that a register for Silver Spirits, Spurs and equivalent Bentley models will soon be formed. These Registers provide members with technical support for, and contact with other members who have these models. The Club continues to maintain strong links with management of both Rolls-Royce Cars and Bentley Motors.
The North Eastern Section of the Club covers an area bounded by the Scottish Border in the north, the Cumbria Border to the west and to around the Thirsk/ Ripon area to the south. The Section is managed by a committee which is elected annually from the members of the Section. The committee is made up of up to ten members who assumes responsibility for the Section’s own internal finances, as well as organising various events which bring the Section members together. The main Club affords the best opportunities for technical assistance etc., therefore the local area Sections tend to concentrate their efforts towards social interaction through visits to places of interest, scenic drives, picnics/BBQ’s etc., and participation in vehicle rallies including multi-make classic car shows.
Our Section has a reputation for being among the most active Sections, and also that of being particularly friendly. We try to have occasional inter-action events with the neighbouring Northern, Yorkshire & Scottish Sections and the annual North of England Rally is held on the lawn in front of Harewood House, by invitation of the Earl of Harewood. This event takes place over a weekend in early August, and usually has in excess of 250 cars on display. We welcome new members, and invite them to participate in everything the Club and our own Section have to offer.
